And Speaking of Freedom...

How's this for a telling quotation:

The country was founded on a belief that freedom is an inalienable right that comes from the hand of God himself. That freedom is not a freedom to do what you want; that's anarchy. It is a freedom to do what you ought to do.
That comes straight from the snarling lips of one Don Minnery, who is head of public policy for The Rev James Dobson's Focus on the Fetus Family.

It reminds me of Orwell's famous essay found at the end of 1984 about the Principles of Newspeak, wherein he says that in Newspeak the whole concept of "freedom" is out of the language except in usages such as "the dog is free of fleas".

I've long argued that one of the base concepts of the Religious Right -- and indeed the entire Rethug Party -- is that if freedom is to be abused, it must be taken away. You don't need to look any farther than this fascist asshole to see that they aren't even trying to hide the fact.
