One Generation of Warriors to the Next

My nearest big-town newspaper, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, has an editorial today about the outreach efforts by Vietnam Veterans of America to the next generation of veterans, the newly-formed Veterans of Modern Warfare, which encompasses the veterans of the wars since Vietnam, including the "sideshow" conflicts in Grenada and Somalia.

When my generation returned from Vietnam to the scorn of an ungrateful nation, we swore, individually and collectively, that we would not allow another generation of veterans to go through what we went through, so I am proud and gratified to see that we are reaching out to our brothers and sisters of the next generation.

"Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another," said Rick Weidman, executive director of Vietnam Veterans of America. (BTW, Rick W. is also, along with me, a founding member of Veterans and Military Families for Progress.)
