Dodged the Bullet!

One week ago tomorrow I had the end of my thumb amputated from the knuckle down, in an attempt to rid myself of a melanoma that was starting to get a strong grip on me.

The results of the biopsy of the thumb and the lymph glands in my left armpit are in: No metastasis!

I'm now as cancer-free as I was four and a half years ago, before I first noticed the telltale symptoms.

Of course, I am still in pain and find it difficult to type. But let the rejoicing go on without me for another week or so, and I ought to be back as good as new. Well, almost -- I am missing half a thumb. The best movie review I'll be able to give is "one and half thumbs up".

Thanks again to all of you who expressed your concern and sent the "healing thoughts" my way. I'll see you back here in a week or so.

good to hear you are doing better. did your thumb amputate you, or you it ?? just kidding. do know that to lose part of your hand sucks, and to have melanoma is a tough ride. have severely injured both my hands, but have not had skin cancer yet, but did witness my father and law's illness with that...
you just keep hammerin, i do think that you are right on most of the time, and love our country as much as i do-thanks for your intense service to it-ross

Your cube neighbor said you should have let her slam it in the drawer to have it removed. "It sounds like it would have hurt the same and he would be getting LNI".
They miss you at work but really haven't put much effort into decorating your cubical, not like last time!

Got here from Abe, the wheeled wonder. It's good to see that you have a sense of humor about critiquing movies. That will get you through this and life in general. Also love you blog photo. One of my favortie shows!

All the best. Yow. My partner had a melanoma taken off her back several years ago and seems fine and another friend had a stage 4 melanoma taken off his shoulder four years ago and he is doing well (no reoccurences). May you fare as well. Take care so that you can keep posting for us lefties who feel out to sea with the news that seems to get worse and worse.

Apologies for getting here so tardily.

I'm glad it went well for you.

A friend of ours has had Mela removed several times. It's pretty hair raising.

It is good to have you back and still pissed off.

I went to see 'The Ground Truth' today in NYC and thought of you on the way back.

Some of the best journalists and cops I knew wrote with their two index fingers.

You have had enough time, get to punching those keys, and lets have some more stuff!

Good to hear it's over.
