"Curing" Homosexuality

It's amusing -- and scary -- to watch the "last throes" of the Baby Doc Maladministration. Der Monkey Fuehrer's nominee to be the new Surgeon General of the US, James Holsinger of Kentucky, is a doctor who helped to found a Methodist congregation that believes that the "gay lifestyle" is a matter of choice and can be cured and who helped strip a Lesbian minister of her minsterial credentials.

"He has a pretty clear bias against gays and lesbians," according to Christina Gilgor, director of the Kentucky Fairness Alliance, a gay rights group. "This ideology flies in the face of current scientific medical studies. That makes me uneasy that he rejects science and promotes ideology."

It just goes to show you how deeply the Religious Right has inserted itself into our government.

Give me a fucking break already. As if anyone would "choose" a lifestyle that would subject them to constant discrimination, abuse, harassment and threats of death (anyone besides me remember Matthew Shephard?).

I think the old Biblical phrase "physician heal thyself" is appropriate here.

BTW, Holsinger, in addition to being a doctor, is a graduate of something called the Asbury Theological Seminary, an innocuous-sounding institution that is dedicated to "send forth a well-trained, sanctified, Spirit-filled, evangelistic ministry to spread scriptural holiness throughout the world".

More of that good ole faith-based medicine, I guess. If you weren't evil, god wouldn't punish you with sickness. Repent and pray, sinners, and god will heal you. That way you won't need to clog up the health-care system with the fruits of your sinful lifestyle.

He's no longer a leader in the UMC but he is still out there doing damage.

For what it's worth, every Bishop in the conference protested that decision.

We're not all him; most of us were appalled.

Curing homosexuality? Reminds me of the paper "The Aversion Project: Human rights abuses of gays and lesbians in the South African Defense Force by health workers during the apartheid era." about the horrors of South African army when they tried to "cure" homosexual soldiers.

Some Doc! I think the people scared of diversity are the scariest of them all.
