Those were the words directed to pompous rightwing crypto-fascist bully Senator "Tailgunner Joe" McCarthy by attorney Joseph Welch during the course of the Army-McCarthy Hearings way back in 1954.
They are as appropriate today as they were back then, albeit in somewhat different circumstances.
Today Der Monkey Feuhrer made an absolutely appalling statement during a speech in Israel:
"Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before," Bush said.Columnist Will Bunch called it an act of political treason, and points out the irony that just the day before, Baby Doc's own SecDef, Robert Gates, said about Iran, "...we need to sit down and talk with them..."
"As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: 'Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided.' We have an obligation to call this what it is -- the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history," he added.
So I guess that makes Gates an appeaser and Nazi enabler, too. But, as the unofficial mantra of the Rethug party has it, "It's not fascism when we do it."
Naturally the White House scrambled to deny that the comments were aimed specifically at Barack Obama. Yeah, right. That's really believable. If you also believe in Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny...
This brings the legacy of the BFEE to a new low. I really didn't think it was possible, but stick around. Chances are it will get even worse, even uglier, before the little fucker is finally out of office in 2009.
And while we're on it, in case you missed Keith Olbermann's rant about the Smirking Chimp last night, here's a link to the MSNBC video. Watch it. KO tears him a new one. So much so that now I fear that KO will be "disappeared"...
