Spitting on Nancy Pelosi

My brother-in-law who lives in Hawaii and works in the medical field sends me wingnut stuff periodically, sometimes just to get my goat, but sometimes with actual questions. He unfortunately works in a rural part of the state with a number of reactionary wingnut medicos who are constantly trying to fill his mind with senseless rightwing bullshit.

So the other day he sends me a copy of this "open letter" written to the Speaker of the House by an attorney named Dennis L. Guthrie, who practices law in Charlotte, NC. The letter was dated August 11, 2009, so it is of recent vintage. I'm reproducing the whole thing here because it's actually quite humorous, in a bone-chilling car-wreck-on-the-freeway kind of way...

Dear Ms. Pelosi:
I write to you out of utter disdain! You are despicable and un-American as the traitor Jane Fonda.
I am a soon to be 65 year old who has voted in every state and local election since 1966. I have voted for both Republicans and Democrats alike. I have worked on campaigns for both Republicans and Democrats, white and black. I served the country I love in Vietnam, as my son did in the Middle East. I was awarded two bronze stars. I have been involved in politics since age 6 when my father was the campaign manager for a truly great American Congressman, Charles Raper Jonas, who worked for his constituents and his country, and was to be admired, unlike you.
You obviously haven't read the Constitution recently, if ever, the Federalist Papers, or even David McCullough's book on John Adams. You ought to take the time while riding around in your government provided luxury executive jet to do just that. You represent Socialistic and even Marxist principals [sic] that our founding fathers tried to avoid when setting out the capitalist republican form of government represented by our Constitution.
I find it interesting that you and your husband are multi-millionaires with much of your fortune being made as a result of your "public service". You have controlled legislation that has enhanced your husband's investments both on and off shore. At the same time you redistributed the wealth of others. Our system of a free market economy is being destroyed by the likes of you, Harry Reid, and now our President. You ride around in a gulf-stream airplane at the tax payer's expense while criticizing the presidents of companies who produced something for the economy. You add nothing to the economy of the Unites States; you only subtract therefrom.
I would like to suggest that you return to the city of fruitcakes and nuts and eat your husband's canned tuna and pineapple produced by illegal immigrants and by workers who have been excluded from the protection that 90% of the legal workers in the Unites States have.
I await your defeat in the next election with glee.
Don't ever use the term "un-American" again for protesters who love this country and are exercising their rights upon which this country was founded. By the way, while I served in the Army, I was spit on by the same type of lunatics who support you and who you probably supported in the 60's and 70's. You are an embarrassment to all of us who served so that you would have the protected right of free speech to call us un-American, as do the majority of the people of this formerly great country. You are a true disgrace to most of the people who served this country by offering themselves for public service in the United States Congress.
I feel certain you aides will not share this letter with you, but I intend to share it with many.
Sincerely,
Dennis L. Guthrie
dlguthrie@gdhs.com
Jeez, where to begin? The hatred squeezing out between the lines of this diatribe is almost physically palpable. Okay, this guy is supposed to be an attorney, yet he doesn't seem to have the slightest idea about the history of the founding of the United States.

Those Socialist/Marxist "principals" that the founders tried to avoid? Actually, it was pretty easy to avoid them, since Karl Marx wasn't born until 1818, and didn't publish the Communist Manifesto until 1848.

And that "capitalist republican form of government"? The US Constitution is remarkably silent on economic matters -- in fact, like "god", there is not a single reference to capitalism, freemarket economics or anything that could remotely be considered "economic" in nature, other than recognizing the existence of slavery, but only to establish in law that a slave was only three-fifths of a man.

The other charges? They are both stale and overblown, and have pretty much proved to be lies by now:
· Pelosi's "luxury" jet? Here's what Snopes has to say about that.
· Star-Kist Tuna, American Samoa and Nancy Pelosi's husband? Here's Snopes again.
· Redistributing wealth? Snopes.
He also claims that he was spit on while serving in the US Army. I doubt it. I really do, I'm calling bullshit on that claim here and now, and my regular readers all know how I feel about that.

It's really sad to see someone my own age, a fellow Vietnam veteran, being suckered in by all this rightwing propaganda bullshit that comes over the airwaves from the likes of Rush Pimple-Ass Draftdodging Limbaugh (BTW, where's Guthrie's Vietnam-vet rage about Limbaugh the draft-dodger?) and out of the mouths of the ClusterFox meat puppet magpies.

Of course Guthrie is from North Carolina ... anybody want to bet on his ethnic heritage? My next paycheck says that he's one of those fearful "White people are being kicked aside" guys, one of those closeted racists who just can't stand it that ONE OF "THEM" is now their president, but since we all now live in a "post-racial" nation, they can't just come out and say "Kill the Nigger", the way they'd like to. So they have to get their anger up over non-issues, such as the health care "death panels" and "socialized medicine" and the like, and redirect their hostility to a more easily attacked target, such as the Speaker of the House. Note that the president was mentioned, but only in passing as one of those evil "destroyers" of the free market economy.

Got news for ya, Denny G. It was the capitalist pig Wall Streeters and those greedy CEOs that you praise who have destroyed your precious "free market" economy.

Well, Im no big fan of Nancy Pelosi, and yes, I can believe Dennis Guthrie was spit on as a Vietnam Vet, as I was there myself as a Vet. That said, Dennis Guthrie is an ambulance chasing lawyer which is about the slimiest job you can have in America. It's like a rat calling a rat a rat.

The letter is GREAT! Whomever Farnsworth68 is, the person that posted his thoughts on the letter is a complete moron. If you want to know the true story as to why things are they way they are, you need to look up the works of G. Edward Griffin.

Farnsworth68 said...

<sarcasm>Thanks for the level-headed commentary, MD7.</sarcasm>.
For those who don't know who G. Edward Griffin is, take a look at his bio, whrein he is identified as, among other things, a member of the John Birch Society who worked on the 1968 presidential campaign of notorious southern racist George Wallace, specifically as a speechwriter for General Curtis "Bomb 'em back to the stone age" LeMay.
So no, Mikey D, I don't think this dickwad is going to to give us the "true story as to why things are the way they are"...
I put up with one of this guy's disciples last weekend, the crazy guy (see Crazy Days, Crazy People), and it's not an experience I'm looking forward to repeating.
Or maybe I could make a few extra bucks getting the tinfoil hat concession at some of these political gatherings. I could have made a fortune last night at the town hall...

Farnsworth68 said...

Oh, and one more thing, Mikey D: You're quick on the draw with the name-calling, but can you please show me where exactly I am wrong in my criticism of Guthrie and his vaguely-threatening wild-eyed arm-waving slanders of Nancy Pelosi?
I've provided the links to a legitimate and respected website (Snopes) to support my positions. Can you point to any legitimate websites (no, Faux News doesn't count, nor does crap like Drudge or Newsmax) that will support your criticism of me?
Yeah, I didn't think so.
Now who's the moron?

Anonymous said...

I find your analysis amusing and the choice of Snopes for backup even more amusing. Bottom line - Pelosi did indeed demand the bigger jet for non-stop flying between DC and the Left Coast. When the story was published and the public outrage surfaced, she changed her tune. Since the liberal Snopes website has also chaged their tune - to "Mostly False". Snopes will go to great lengths to defend liberals. There are many more credible debunking sites out here to use.

Farnsworth68 said...

Anon--
I ordinarily don't answer back to anonymous sock puppets, and I usually refuse to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed man, but I am making an exception in your case.
If there are so many other "credible debunking site", surely you must be able to come up with at least one. Well, I've saved you some time and come up with three others (see below).
"Liberal" Snopes? Give me a break. This from their competitor, Urban Legends at About.com puts the lie to that, as does this from Truth or Fiction.
And that airplane? Here's what Factcheck.org has to say about it.
In short, you people (i.e., wingnut apologists) are incapable of independent thought, take all your talking points from wingnut media, and think anything to the left of Attilla the Hun is "liberal".
Bottom line, Pelosi DID NOT "order up" that airplane, and no amount of screaming and throwing temper tantrums on the right will change that.

Unknown said...

We obviously won't be able to get the full story on both sides - Liberal media says one thing, Conservative media says one thing. Facts & logs speak volumes, but again, getting the full story takes time or may be impossible. Bottom line, IMHO, is this: what if any plane capable of non-stop flight coast-to-coast were unavailable? Would she cancel for security reasons (with a necessity to stop & refuel) or take a plane that needed to stop & refuel? And my point would be this: if she would be willing to take a plane that needed to stop, then she should be willing to forego any need what-so-ever for anything larger than the C-20B. Otherwise, I don't give a crap what she uses to fly home.

Unknown said...

Just a short response to all involved...1. The anger that is seething from both sides of this is ridiculous. 2.The fact that someone even bothers to write a letter to someone that will never read it is obsurd. 3. And anyone defending a stuttering blithering idiot as Nancy Pelosi or any other lying ass politician in Washington needs to have there head examined. Now, libs, neo-cons you criticize to your little hearts content.

Dude. You need to wake up and smell the century. You've been drinking the Kool-Aid since before they added sugar to the packages. Wouldn't it be fun to go down to Planned Parenthood and other abortion mills to spit on the abortionists and call them baby killers just to see how limp wristed lefties wet themselves and lawyer up? Oops! Is that analogy a little too accurate? My bad.
I'm pretty sure he was writing about Marxist/Leninist ideas, whose ideas pre-date our country, not the actual men. Maybe you could Snopes that.

eric said...

P.s. Limbaugh was deemed 4F when he reported for service. That is not draft dodging.
And Farnsworth..." notorious southern racist" did you mean "standard southern democrat" ?

Farnsworth68 said...

Eric, I'd call you an idiot, but that would be insulting to idiots everywhere. Spitting on abortion protesters? What wet dream of yours did THAT get pulled out of?
Rush Limbaugh's family was well-connected in his local community (his grandfather was a judge, as were several others in his family -- I have family connections in Cape Girardeau myself, so I know what I'm talking about) and you are probably neither old enough nor smart enough to know that the well-connected local pillar-of-the-community types were also well-connected to the local draft boards, as well as to local doctors. If their sons could not get out of the draft by attending college (which Rush tried but flunked out), then they could get "medical" deferments for petty shit. Like a pimple on the ass... Which is what got Limbaugh his deferment.
I was in basic training in 1967 with two guys who had much worse physical problems than that, but whose families were not "connected". THEY got drafted, no 4-F for them.
And as far as your claim that "Marxist-Leninist" ideas predate the founding of our nation? Dude, what are you smoking??? And what "Marxist-Leninist ideas" are those, exactly, that existed before Marx and Lenin were even born? And why, if they were SO scary that the founding fathers tried to avoid them, are none of them mentioned in, say, the Declaration of Independence or the Federalist Papers?
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof, and I don't think you can come up with it. So maybe YOU could "Snopes" that?
Sock puppet.

You, know, I thank you for your service and wish you well. But when it comes to Pisslosi and her brain-dead supporters and constituency, well I have no problem with dead and dying Bolsheviks in my front yard. We will light their bodies like Medieval pyres. I never understood how an American could take up arms against another American in the Civil War. I do now. The Dali Bama, his Chicago thug admin, the likes of Pisslosi/Kerry/Reid (ad pukeum) are trying to do what they've dreamed for 100 years: turn our country into East Germany. Not on my watch. Burn, pyre, burn.

Jeez, you two (if you really are "two"), try using spellcheck once in a while.
And with regard to the actual content of your posts, let me extend a hearty Fuck you.

I read the constitution, and it ends with this statement: "Done in Convention by the Unanimous Consent of the States present the Seventeenth Day of September in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven..."

Lord? Didn't you say there was not a single mention of God? Sounds like a mention to me.

Farnsworth68 said...

You gotta be fuckin' KIDDING me...
That's the way EVERY SINGLE official document was dated back in the day.
That was the accepted method of dating stuff. See, for example, this as well as this and this.
That does not indicate a belief in god and I'm surprised that you people can even bring that up as "proof" that the FFs believed in god.
Give me a fucking break, already.

Anonymous said...

Proof? Who said proof? Not me.
You said there was not "a single mention." I simply pointed out a single mention. You can't take it when an error in fact is pointed out to you.

So I will not give you a break, a fucking break, or any other kind of break.

Now, since you brought it up. You say the use of "our Lord" was "the accepted method" and that really means the FF's were just being traditional, and didn't believe in "our Lord" at all. Sort of like saying "god damn you" but because you're an atheist you can then say, "I really didn't mention god at all, it's just the accepted way to damn someone."

You're an asshole, but since I don't believe in cursing I really didn't mention you're an asshole a single time. It's just the accepted way of saying you're an asshole, asshole. See, not a single mention. (I didn't mention fucking either!)

Farnsworth68 said...

Yeah, whatever, dude. You knew it was called "One Pissed Off Veteran" when you landed here.
Which part of "pissed off" didn't you get?
Come back when you grow a pair and aren't afraid to hide behind anonymity.
But remember, I refuse to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed man.

Anonymous said...

Farnsoworth I read your profile. It is 100% anonymous. I could set up a profile that says I'm 64 and a veteran and bunch of other BS - does that mean I would "grow a pair" like you? My post says anonymous, and that makes my pair just as big as yours.

You asked, "Which part of "pissed off" didn't you get?" I didn't get that "pissed off" equates to dim wit. When confronted with one simple error in fact you resort to rants and diatribes. Such wit!

Since you "refuse to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed man" I leave you with all who consider "battle of wits" to be responses such as "Yeah, whatever, dude." You really got me with that one, dude! Dude, you sure are smarter than me. Dude, you humbled me, I see now your pair is so big! I am off to associate with much lesser mortals.

We can try to explain their nonsense, but it is a waste of effort to try to reason with the wingnuts such as Guthrie and those who cling to name-calling and ignorant rantings to cover their lack of understanding of how and why the world about them is such a wreck. For thirty years such weak minds had control of the U.S. Government (1980-2009), with the disasterous results now spread over the table for all to see. But, without thinking, these nutcases long to return the Nation and the world to the barons of Wall Street and banking.

Guthrie is an embarrassment to the profession of law, lacking ability to construct a persuasive case, and
obviously not able to discourse with intelligence in civilized company. Imagine hiring this guy to defend you, and, when confronted with reality, launching into a diatribe such as he wrote, causing everyone withing sound of his ignorant words to be pissed off at you and him? ..."Guilty, Your Honor" - off to jail with you. His partners must be embarrassed by this nutcase.

Farnsworth68 said...

Thanks, Delegate. I think that these people are missing the "reason gene". In other words, it's a birth defect and in their mentally crippled --excuse me -- challenged state, is it really fair to attack them?

Wow. You're all nuts. Even the ones I somewhat agree with. I wonder if you would all talk like this face to face with each other.

But... what's with liberals getting all bent out of shape when you don't agree with their view? Its as if they can't believe they haven't "enlightened" you and set your political views on the right track.
I'm not coming back to check this. I just read through all these comments and felt the need to add my own - most of the stuff on this page is ridiculous - left or right - and downright disgusting the way most of you talk. Try rising above. No one is going to be swayed in any direction by your "right point of view" - and you just wasted all that time coming up with new insults for people who don't care except to insult you back.

Then again, I just wasted a good 60 seconds of my time.

Ciao.

I find it disingenuous for you to critique the author in light of your own hatred-based speech against those with whom you disagree. Your dual standard and two-faced diatribe makes your blog postings quite transparent.

By the way, the day I returned from Vietnam I detoured through San Francisco to check on a pilot I crashed and burned with in a Huey along the Mekong River. He was in Letterman Army Medical Center in very bad shape. After the visit, as I attempted to navigate my way to the departure gate of the airport, I too was spit upon. The uppercut I responded with not only ended his vile cursing of me (and his spitting), but it also broke my hand. That is a wound I proudly wear.

Farnsworth68 said...

Bud, old buddy: You gotta be fucken kidding me. What part of "One Pissed Off Veteran" didn't you understand? It's my blog and I can get as angry as I want.
And as far as your alleged confrontation in the SF airport is concerned...well, calling you a "liar" is probably going to excess...at this point you probably believe it really happened to you. Nevertheless talk is cheap and I'd like to see the SFO security report on that incident, or your medical report on the treatment of your broken hand.
But I guess that's expecting too much...strange isn't it how NO ONE can furnish a contemporary and independent report of ANY spitting incident? Yet I hear stories all the time about my fellow vets being spit on, and always in airports, and mostly at SFO. Jesus, the floors must have been an inch deep in hippie saliva...
and the airport security office overflowing with incident reports, as well as the city jail with persons arrested for assault or disorderly conduct, and the courts packed with these criminal cases and their assocoated civil suits. But no, no one has been able to produce those proofs either.
Can you?
