Okay, so it's predictable. So what? So sue me...
I was in Vietnam when this song was new, and it still has a lot of personal meaning for me.
Retired. Disabled Veteran. Democrat. Cancer Survivor. Stroke Survivor. Radical. Socialist. Non-theist. Political Activist. Witty Impromptu Comedian. Writer. Professional Pain in the Ass. Class Warrior. And Smart-Mouth Dispenser of Political Snark.

You are a New Left Hipster, also known as a MoveOn.org liberal, Netroots activist, or Daily Show fanatic. You believe that if we really want to defend American values, conservative hatriots must be exposed and mocked for every fanatical, puritanical, soulless, paranoid, fact-free, obstructionist ideal for which they stand.

Great song, I haven't heard it in years. In 1968 I was in Grade 10 living in northern Manitoba. Even we knew about Vietnam...I can't imagine listening to this song while waiting to get my ass shot off.
damn, got me sniffling again. I love that above all the so called anti-war songs. Oh, and I check truthout about once a week, just read that thing before I came over and found your story.
Those were the days! Lotsa cool tunes. "Get back" by the Beattles never fails to take me back... when we did a platoon sing along while refueling M48A3 Tanks at Quan Loi. Ahh, 1969... it was the summer of love. Vietnam still is, the greatest adventure I was ever on and survived!
Thanks, cb, and welcome home, brother!
I agree about it being the Great Adventure of our lives. My uncle who was a combat engineer in WWII in Europe felt the same way about his wartime service.
